Attractions

*Manantlan Biosphere
This is an ecological reserve that serves as a habitat for more than 2,900 plant species, half of which are endemic to the region. This reserve of 370,658 acres is home to endangered species and its mission is to preserve the regional biologic diversity and to create sustainable tourism without endangering the habitat. The main priority is to protect and preserve nature and create a consciousness of the area's flora and fauna.

*Fishing
The Barra de Navidad region is an important zone for sport fishing, with the featured fish being marlin, sailfish and tuna. Every winter, the International Sailfish Fishing Tournament is held during the last 3 days of the last week of January (see fishing in Costalegre).

*Snorkel and Diving
Tenacatita Bay is a recreational paradise for snorkeling. This bay features extensive coral reefs, colorful tropical fish, sharks, whales, turtles and dolphins (see diving in Costalegre).

*Surfing
Barra de Navidad and Majahuas are perfect places to surf due to the imposing force of waves, an important condition for this sport. Another beach in Costalegre appropriate for surfing is El Tecuan, 3 miles north of Tenacatita. This beach presents the wildest waves of the region due to the westerly winds and is recommended for experienced surfers..
*Barra de Navidad
This is a small fishing village that in the last couple of years has been opened to tourism. The villagers will welcome you with unique warmth that you will be pressed to find other places in the world. This town is located on the southern tip of Costalegre. People have asked the reason behind its peculiar name. Barra de Navidad is a natural sand bar, perpendicular to Punta El Viejo and, according to the local lore, it was discovered on Christmas Day many years ago. In its restaurants, you will be able to taste a great variety of fresh seafood and typical regional food.

*Chamela Bay
There is no other bay in Mexico featuring as many islands as this one. Situated between Punta Rivas and Punta Farallon, it shows its hegemony by protecting with crags some nine large islands and several small ones. Some of these, such as La Colorada, San Andres, Novilla, Esfinge, San Pedro, and La Negrita, provide ideal shelter for a wide variety of birds and dolphins. This region features impeccable tourist services and is conveniently accessible from Puerto Vallarta or Barra de Navidad.

*Tenacatita Bay
Tenacatita is a chain of beaches located less than an hour from Manzanillo, full of unspoiled areas where you can swim and snorkel. The incredible Blue Bay Los Angeles Locos Hotel is located here so if you want to move away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is the perfect choice. There is very little hotel development in the area, resulting in immaculate natural beauties.

*Costa Careyes
This place presents exceptional beauty thanks to a set of unspoiled beaches and restaurants with the most exquisite gastronomic specialties located on seaboards surrounded by deluxe residential and hotel resorts. This area is also famous by its turtle nesting beaches. The vast expanse of the open sea, the different colors and textures of the sand as well as the diversity of animal species enrich the biological diversity of the region.Famous for its beaches filled with turtles and sand speckled with different colors, this beach also is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
*Costa Majahuas
Beautiful beaches where you can enjoy a lot of sea and sun, the perfect place for the camping, fishing, and adventure lovers. Those who go fishing can find lobster, octopus and crab. The harmony in the colors of the surroundings create a very pleasant ambiance so you can forget about the civilized world and relax. The largest turtle fields in the state are also found here.

*Cuastecomates
Cuastecomates is a tiny coastal town located on a beautiful cove that protects its beaches providing the ideal conditions for a placid swim in the sea or snorkel. In this beautiful village some private bungalows can be found featuring a beach ambiance full of peace and tranquility. When walking along the beach, you will find as well some thatched restaurants where you will be able to enjoy an abundant variety of exquisite seafood.

*La Manzanilla
This is a classic and discreet Mexican village located about two hundred kilometers to the south of Puerto Vallarta and around a hundred kilometers to the north of Manzanillo. La Manzanilla is a small fishing town that features huge beaches and typical palapas, calm waters and golden sands surrounded by a set of palm trees and fruit trees on the shore of a great mangrove swamp that provides life to different marshes where a great variety of alligators and fish can be seen on their natural habitat.

*Melaque
Barra de Navidad is located to the north while Melaque, to the south of Navidad Bay. It is surrounded by large rocky formations and golden beaches where you can taste the typical regional cuisine in many of its restaurants on the beach. Enjoy fresh seafood and the "tuba" (palm tree drink). El Mirador is a choice that has been made classic through its great food. Feel the cool caress of the ocean breeze while admiring the beautiful sunsets on the coast.

*Tomatlan
Its name means "the place of the tomatoes" and it is located between the coast and mountains. The shores are approximately 30 miles long with a variety of flora and fauna. This is also the location of the largest salt mines in Jalisco.

*Other Attractions
There are lots of things to see. Visit the Island of the Birds, the turtle farm, the beaches in Costa Careyes or contemplate the Fuego Volcano and explore to your heart's content. Come and watch a bullfight and maybe even catch a fireworks show. Visit the Costalegre Carnaval that takes place in Barra de Navidad, normally celebrated during the five days prior to Ash Wednesday.

Nightlife
Costalegre is place to rest, where you find relaxation and tranquility in a beautiful ambiance surrounded by green nature and the sweet sound of waves breaking on the shore. When night comes, a charming starry sky can be admired.
While this is a perfect resting spot secluded from the world, Costalegre nightlife is still wild and fun.
Bars and restaurants of the nearby lavish resorts usually offer live music and lively shows performed by professional dancers.
In Barra de Navidad, Costalegre nightlife is concentrated in small bars where you can enjoy a refreshing drink and spend a pleasant night chatting and meeting new people. In this little town, you will find nice people who welcome visitors making them feel at home. The main places in Barra de Navidad can be found on the Lopez de Legazpi pedestrian street and on Veracruz Avenue, which serves as entrance to this village.
Here you find little bars with thatched roofs on the pedestrian street that passes through the sea walk to the jetty. Lots of them transform at night into lively discotheques.

Jarro
Come and hang with the gang in this cheerful nightclub where you will be able to dance to the top hits of the moment. Undoubtedly, it is one of the hotspots for nightlife in Barra de Navidad.

Sea Master's

This popular restaurant offers the best seafood in the area and during the high season, at nights, it becomes one of the liveliest nightclubs in town. It is the perfect spot to mingle and make new friends.

Here, you will find plenty of stores along its two main avenues.Veracruz Avenue lies right at the entrance to Barra de Navidad, and Lopez Legazpi Avenue goes across the entire town and makes for an easy walk to the beach.

Melaque
